Foolproof to use trouble code reader at great priceAs a patch mechanic I was frustrated with the new cars and the check engine light that results in a $60 injunction to read at a garage. Now that the price of a reader is less than $80 it makes sensation to try the Equus Innova 3030 car reader and I was happy I did. It works enthusiastic and is easy to use but does have a minor problem I discovered. My Subaru would not supply be in communication with with the 3030. The tech support phone line was tied up, but they rapidly responded to my email and sent me a new Innova 3030 with a new chip set. Patently Subarus, Mazdas and Volkswagons tend to have a problem in communication and in this at all events require a newer chip set in the 3030 which apparently works on all brands (I checked my Honda and toyota OK), so if you have one of the former car brands ask for the newer counter set. The manual has one misprint and the key must be turned to on position before plugging the 3030 into the car. Tech keep at the website was great and called back later. I had already saved $60...

Recently the "Mesh Engine" light illuminated on the dashboard of my 2002 Volkswagen Jetta TDI, and I hardened this as an excuse to purchase a code reader. I chose the Equus 3030 based on assay, richness of user interface, and sophistication of the company's website (Innova).I was not looking for a strident-end tool, with battery-backed up memory and an internal list of cypher descriptions. Ideally, I will seldom use this tool, and using the manual (or even cured, the company's website) to look up codes works fine for me. So I have to notation down the code on a piece of paper, and take that to my computer, rather than the unit remembering it for me. Plus, no batteries to go unsympathetic while the tool sits in my toolbox.I did appreciate the extra indicators on the LCD exhibit, and the Green/Yellow/Red LEDs for quickly checking the status of the system. It provides generic codes and more from many makes but on European, Korean or Swedish vehicles dont surmise much more than the generic codes.I did not research tool enough to realize nearly all of the "adavanced DTC" functions are for Chrysler/Jeep, Ford/Mazda,GM/Isuzu, Honda/Acura and Toyota/Lexus vehicles only. The sales verbiage DOES untangle justify the limitations of the ABS testing to certain makes/models but DOES NOT present the information that the tools enchanced DTC functions share the same vehicle limitations.The enchanced functions are described in the owners instructions as:"The "enhanced" mode provides the ability to retrieve enhanced DTCs from most Chrysler/Jeep, Ford/Mazda,GM/Isuzu, Honda/Acura and Toyota/Lexus vehicles. I was ready to drop of the cheap OBD readers and wanted something much better. I also wanted something I could read the ABS system with. The Innova 3160 does the dido. It is easy to use and understand. I like the way it prompts you in order to get what you are looking for. It has an capital screen with the exact information you need to make repairs. It is straightforward that they consulted with a repair tech when they designed it. I haven't tried to up-man it from the computer as yet, but it has all the necessary items and information with it to do so. On the down side, it doesn't have an explanation for all the manufacturer codes, firstly the ABS codes. I found that I am going to their web site quite often to get the expanation. The web-site is very honest and helpful though. I really like it. The worst thing is the CHEAP vehicle case. The unit won't even fit into it with the cable attached. That means that you are always removing and replacing the radio. I'm sure that isn't...

They also pulled at various wires under the hood. The Silverado 4.8 locomotive for 2007 has knock sensors in the intake valley, and engine washing causes moisten to damage them by puddling under the intake. With only 6,000 miles in four years, my machine light came on. Turns out the knock sensor problem with Facetious Adam's ale is common. Works TerrificI have 4 vehicles from a '98 to an '07 and have toughened this to check codes on 3 of them already including the '07 that had a cylinder 3 misfire upon acquisition a month ago. There was a wrong spark plug installed prior to my attain. If I had taken the car to a garage, I would have paid the purchase price of this code reader for the diagnosis alone. I tainted all 4 plugs myself for $26. I recommend every car owner to own a code reader. They are honestly plug 'n' play nowadays and will pay for themselves in 1 use. This reader read my ('07 Solstice, '98 F150, '00 Elantra and a Windstar labour van of unknown year) codes straight out of the box....Highly recommended!!

I purchased this reader because I am an enthusiastic DIY person. I have another reader (not this type) that was giving me an error when trying to skim my 2006 Dodge Mega-cab diesel. I like to be informed before I take my car or sundries into the shop. Some time you can get the (CEL) check engine light for the slightest tiny hiccup. Makes you a little nervous when you are running down the freeway towing a 5th vicinity. This little device is very powerful, reads the error and tells you what it is. No books to transfer. I have used it on 5 different vehicles, 2 diesel and 3 gas. It told me what the trespass was and allowed me to clear them. I would not recommend junk, this thing is nice. Don't let the petite size fool you, good things do come in little packages. I give this coat of arms 5 stars. It is a money saver
