      The CarMD diagnostic gismo is a "Do It Yourself" (and sadly, "As Seen on TV") device that connects to your vehicle's On Board Diagnostic Haven (OBD2) and lets you understand what is going on under the hood. Unlike some devices that deliver assign to and display data from the OBD2 connector real-time (like right time gauges), this device has one function, and one function only: To help you the hang of what, if anything, is wrong with your car using this device and your computer, and it supports Mac and PC alike.The device is objectively easy to use, but I suggest reading the small instruction booklet before you start. I didn't (who reads instructions these life span?), and I ended up entering some bogus info into the CarMD report for my car, which I could not remove.To get started, one would think you should start by installing the software that comes with the portion.       A lot of hype, but good another ODB2 scanner...
      This trick is nothing new, and is what mechanics know as an ODB2 diagnostic scanner. AutoZone/Checkers/O'Reily/Pep Boys/etc. often have these nearby to borrow for free to see what error code (check engine torchlight) your vehicle is producing. There are varying models and makes of these scanners, and the more ahead of its time ones can reset/remove the error codes from the car. This is a useful implement, and can save you money, but it is not the only tool you should have. Common sense should also be in everybody's toolbox as well. If your car is on-going rough, if you brakes squeal or become spongy (when you depress the pedal), or if you have a burned out tuber - all of these things will NOT register on this device, nor any other ODB2 scanner, but should be repaired. The scanner can also be very unclear about the problem, or completely misdiagnose the problem completely; but will generally promontory you in the direction of what needs to be repaired.       Works OK - There are other options
      Works sheer.. BUT.. The potentially best feature is the website and they have a number of limitations on how you can use it. I bought one and fair-minded read the codes and Google what they mean. I've found it useful, but I wouldn't buy this again. There are a host of other code readers out there and the big downside of CarMD (aside from the limitations on use of the web neighbourhood) is that it cannot reset your codes. Shop around... you can do better.

      Mild to use trouble code reader at great price
      As a patch mechanic I was frustrated with the new cars and the check engine light that results in a $60 entrust to read at a garage. Now that the price of a reader is less than $80 it makes meaning to try the Equus Innova 3030 car reader and I was happy I did. It works renowned and is easy to use but does have a minor problem I discovered. My Subaru would not be in with the 3030. The tech support phone line was tied up, but they swiftly responded to my email and sent me a new Innova 3030 with a new chip set. Clearly Subarus, Mazdas and Volkswagons tend to have a problem in communication and in this protection require a newer chip set in the 3030 which apparently works on all brands (I checked my Honda and toyota OK), so if you have one of the former car brands ask for the newer whittle set. The manual has one misprint and the key must be turned to on position before plugging the 3030 into the car. Tech substructure at the website was great and called back later. I had already saved $60...

      Paid for itself instantly!
      Recently the "Check out Engine" light illuminated on the dashboard of my 2002 Volkswagen Jetta TDI, and I occupied this as an excuse to purchase a code reader. I chose the Equus 3030 based on price, richness of narcotic addict interface, and sophistication of the company's website (Innova).I was not looking for a pongy chief-end tool, with battery-backed up memory and an internal list of cryptogram descriptions. Ideally, I will seldom use this tool, and using the manual (or even bigger, the company's website) to look up codes works fine for me. So I have to minimize down the code on a piece of paper, and take that to my computer, rather than the unit remembering it for me. Plus, no batteries to go outmoded while the tool sits in my toolbox.I did appreciate the extra indicators on the LCD flaunt, and the Green/Yellow/Red LEDs for quickly checking the status of the system.       This is what it is and does what it does. It is a essential bare bones code reader (doesn't give you any live telemetry figures) but has the advantage of being future proof. This is one of the most affordable code readers that works with the older On-Billet Diagnostics (OBDII) and the newer Controller-area network (CAN or CAN-bus). CAN has been in use by some car manufacturers since the 1990's but as of 2008 all new cars sold in the U.S. are required to use CAN. Both protocols use the same personification of connector on most cars. Even if you have a car that is OBDII don't be tempted to save a few bucks on an OBDII only reader; you're directed to have a CAN type car in the future.It is well made, the LCD and status lights are highly readable and the rudder are simple and easy to learn.       Very utilitarian if you have the right vehicles
      The 3160 is a very salutary tool if you have the right vehicle. It provides generic codes and more from many makes but on European, Korean or Swedish vehicles dont conjecture much more than the generic codes.I did not research tool enough to realize nearly all of the "adavanced DTC" functions are for Chrysler/Jeep, Ford/Mazda,GM/Isuzu, Honda/Acura and Toyota/Lexus vehicles only. The sales verbiage DOES expound the limitations of the ABS testing to certain makes/models but DOES NOT minister to the information that the tools enchanced DTC functions share the same vehicle limitations.The enchanced functions are described in the owners guide as:"The "enhanced" mode provides the ability to retrieve enhanced DTCs from most Chrysler/Jeep, Ford/Mazda,GM/Isuzu, Honda/Acura and Toyota/Lexus vehicles.       I was ready to drop of the cheap OBD readers and wanted something much better. I also wanted something I could read the ABS system with. The Innova 3160 does the fraud. It is easy to use and understand. I like the way it prompts you in order to get what you are looking for. It has an leave out screen with the exact information you need to make repairs. It is direct that they consulted with a repair tech when they designed it. I haven't tried to up-companion it from the computer as yet, but it has all the necessary items and information with it to do so. On the down side, it doesn't have an explanation for all the manufacturer codes, exceptionally the ABS codes. I found that I am going to their web site quite often to get the expanation. The web-site is very esteemed and helpful though. I really like it. The worst thing is the CHEAP haulage case. The unit won't even fit into it with the cable attached. That means that you are always removing and replacing the strand. I'm sure that isn't...

      Equus 3160 - Most Ended Diagnostics Provided For Automotive Code Scanning At This Price
      What do cats have to do with structure scanners?In my case, cats crawled under the hood of my 2007 Silverado Paradigm pickup and kept the engine filthy. They also pulled at various wires under the hood. Those two things refer to problems for any vehicle, but acutely for my Silverado - as I had to repeatedly wash the pollution away the cats left under the hood. The Silverado 4.8 machine for 2007 has knock sensors in the intake valley, and engine washing causes bath-water to damage them by puddling under the intake. With only 6,000 miles in four years, my appliance light came on. Turns out the knock sensor problem with top is common.       OK but overpriced for circumscribed functionality
      Yes, the 3120 is friendly to use to retrieve error codes but BEWARE; it does not display dynamic operational data, it is limited to just what is recorded in the vehicle computer retention. For only that, its price is not justifiable.My mistake in missing the distinction between the 3120 and 3130 in the on-hint cord product descriptions. My mistake in buying the more expensive 3120 rather than of the much more capable and less expensive 3130.

      Pronounced tool!
      This is the first scanner I've ever owned, and I found it to be down-to-earth to use and easy to understand. When I had a question I emailed their tech support and got a reply that even I could realize within an hour. In addition to our late-model car, I used it to check an older mock-up (1985 Ford Ranger) equipped with OBD1, and the accompanying adaptor worked unmistakably. I'm very happy with this product.
