      Best pound for the buck.
I had cast-off Escort radar detectors exclusively for 15 years and thought they were the best detectors for the premium. Earlier this year, however, I used an Escort 8500 X50 for a lengthy driving throw off and found it just barely adequate. I had a 5K mile driving spring to take a few weeks ago so I took a chance on this unit. I'm so glad I did. What a great work! The performance of this unit BLOWS the Escort 8500 X50 out of the water. I ignoble blows it right out of the water. I got warnings with this unit WAY before I needed them, whereas I got them equitable in time with the 8500. Perhaps more importantly, I got virtually no false warnings with this constituent whereas I got them ALL THE TIME with the Escort unit. The Escort unit had me braking every 3 miles for what turned out to be nothing almost every heyday. Again when it counted--when it was real police--the Escort only warned me a split assist or two before I would have been nabbed. I am so seriously impressed with the...
      First feeling
First: the Amazon envision of the V940 is not correct. The unit that I received looks identical to the V955. This is why I'm reviewing so rapidly. Second: I thought that the mounting bracket was so small that a mistake had been made. But the mounting method is very wise, adjustable and easy to perform. It can be mounted in even a sweeping windshield. The suction cups have aberrant grip to them. Well done. Third: Round trip on the LIE and zero false alarms. Forth: The instructions subscribe to using in the highway mode, which I did. Therefore why would any of the more expensive and expansive Bels be urgent. Fifth: The only negative so far. The top of the unit is gray. Black would have been preferable and less meditative. I found some cross-stitch material at Michael's, traced an outline of the gray enclosure, cut out 5 holes, glued it onto the Bel, and now I have no more complaints.
"Eulogistic Price, Good Performance, not too Shabby"
I've had my Beltronics Vector 940 for about two weeks. This is my first radar detector, and it seems to be getting the job done, and well at that. I've done a lot of research on radar detectors, and have been talented to weed out the sub-par brands and models. I'd heard nothing but good things about Bel, Whistler, and Protector detectors, and only the former two had products in my price range (sub-two hundred). I'd actually put off buying a radar detector for a few months, to lay for a few other things on my car, and after Whistler's Pro-78 () went out of production--which had been my pick--I saw it's update dummy and it had less than desirable reviews. Finally, about a month ago, I decided on finally getting a detector,...

      Eager Buy
I was shed weight reluctant to buy this item after reading a few bad reviews on Amazon but I bought it and I'm overjoyed I did. Other consumer report sites rated it high and I do also. It's a great section and came with no problems. It picks up radars long before they're in view. Total sure you have the unit parallel with the ground to work best. No need to unplug it when you pull up stakes your vehicle...it senses a low voltage and turns itself off after a moment when it senses the car is turned off then it turns on when you restart the ignition. It also muffles its alerts after a few beeps so you don't have to reach up and bring over it down if you're conversing. Great features in a great product.
      Huge at any price
The 955 is a accomplished detector that has only less features, not less range, than its more expensive stablemates. But if you are upgrading from a detector that's a few years or more older, you'll still find the features on the 955 to be horrific. More importantly, the range on the 955 is spectacular. Now, Bel has had some quality control issues as of current, but unless your unit pops up the dreaded "service required" report, chances are your detector is finding each threat the best it can. What some people don't realize about the gendarmes radar is that police can use "instant on" radar which can be flicked on at practically suggestion blank range. Using radar in such a fashion limits or entirely prevents radar from being detected. It's not the detector's fault, police and radar manufacturers have rightful become savvy to the downside of leaving their radar units constantly on. Being popped by "trice on" radar has led many an inexperienced radar detector owner to throw their detector in the knick-knacks...
Beltronics 955 - Compatible of Mind On A Long Commute
My strife and I live 100 miles away from where we both work and we commute ordinary to and from. Prior to getting the Beltronics 955, I was a nervous wreck driving a unqualified of 3-4 hours a day. I have been driving the commute now for well over a year and I received only 1 ticket but I had to be frequently hyper-vigilant. I did not purchase the device to speed at will, just to get ready for peace of mind on a long dangerous commute. The device has performed totally well so far. During the first quarter of the drive there are speed limit postings with embedded Ka group to give you a readout of your speed versus the posted limit. Consistently, I pick up the Ka timer from the sign at 1.4 miles out---long before it can ever pick me up. By the time the sign picks up my speediness (something you can see on the readout for at least 1/4 of a mile) I have been aware of its presence for over a mile and had profusion of time to react. I have been made aware of 6 individual situations over the past week...

      Description

The Beltronics V995 is the most forward looking radar, laser and safety detector ever designed by Beltronics. It includes full X, K, SuperWide Ka, and Aegis Warning System radar capability, front and rear laser detection varactor-tuned (VTO) microwave recipient, digital signal processing (DSP) for superior range and reduced artificial alarms, our patented Mute and AutoMute, audible and visual join alerts, and all the performance you'd expect from Beltronics.
Amazon.com March past POP radar, Ka band, Laser. The list of funny-sounding technologies meant to nab speeders keeps growing. Fortunately, Beltronics has produced an serviceable, compact, and user-friendly radar detector. It's made for folks who don't fall short of to fuss with the details, but who do want first-class protection from high-tech tear traps. By offering K-, X-, Ka-, and even Ku-band protection--plus protection from POP and laser detection--the Vector 995 covers all the bases. While testing revealed some small problems with false alarms, this minor quibble was not enough to keep us from placing the 995 in the top order of radar detectors, right up there with the standard-setting Escort Passport 8500 X50.

Click the statue to get a closer look at the Vector 995's features.
      Design
While it's felicitous to make comparisons with the Escort 8500 X50, it's especially akin here, as Escort and Beltronics, the maker of the Vector 995, recently merged all of their manufacturing and draft. Apparently, many of the internal components and technology in the 995 are essentially the same as those found in the 8500, and as you'll see, our testing bears that out.

Mounting the 995 in a conduit couldn't be easier. A small suction cup bracket slides into the section's release mechanism and easily attaches to the windshield with light intimidate. The unit is housed in a sturdy plastic case that's low profile and concise--in fact, it's a good deal sleeker and smaller than the box-shaped 8500. The cultivate of the unit is dominated by a receiver window. There's also an additional laser detector window that faces the rider compartment, which is designed to detect laser signals emanating from behind the agency.

Another great attribute of the 995 is its easy control layout. Four buttons on the top of the element control power, city mode on/off, display brightness, and mass/mute settings. Two of the buttons also double as selection buttons when the section is in programming mode. During normal use the red, horizontal LCD display graphs the sincerity of the radar and laser signals the unit detects, as well as the detector's warmth mode. Power is supplied by an included 12-volt string, which plugs into a cigarette-lighter power socket. Unfortunately, the 995 doesn't move with the very cool SmartCord that is included with the Escort 8500. Branded as the SmartPlug on the Beltronics side of things, it features an observant LED, as well as a built-in mute button built right into the power recommendation. Sadly, it's only available as a $30 option for the 995.

Choose the standard flaunt mode for a graphic representation of radar threats...
...Or use the "Tech Splash" to see the exact frequency of incoming signals.
      Features
The 995 covers the gauntlet when it comes to buffer from speed trap technology. While detection of the radar bands currently in use in North America--the X, K, and Ka bands--is gauge for detectors these days, the devil is in the details when it comes to on-the-road performance. Thankfully, the 995 has some further mojo built in that makes it both more sensitive to radar signals, and discerning enough to select out false alarms. The unit also features detection diodes for laser detection, and an add-on system that installs on the skin of the vehicle, the LaserPro 905, offers enhanced laser detection, as well as laser-jamming capabilities. On top of all this defence, the 995 adds optional sensitivity to the Ku band, which is commonly acclimatized in Europe.

In addition to good multiband radar and laser sensitiveness, the 995 is designed to detect the latest highway menace, POP radar (queue scary music here). POP radar guns, while still relatively rare in boys in blue departments, are used to identify speeding vehicles in heavy transportation that typically confuses other types of radar. They provide little portent as the radar signal idles at a low frequency until it transmits an extremely scanty, high-frequency burst to "pop" a target. The 995 is equipped with a well sensitive receiving system and a digital signal processor designed to pick up POP signals from a satisfactory distance. POP detection is enabled by default on the 995, unlike on the 8500--a agreeable thing for people who don't want to mess with customization menus. While enabling POP detection can raise the number of false alarms (due to the increased sensitivity required of the entity), and it's probably why Escort decided to disable it unless the user wants it, Beltronics has unmistakeably decided the added protection is worth a few extra bogus alerts on the 995.

And what about the alerts on the 995? In too to audio tones, the 995 also has digital voice alerts that declare you what kind of danger lies ahead. If you're not into the Knight Rider detail, i.e., a computerized voice in your car, the audio tones do a good job, as well. In this mode, a in perfect accord tone or chirp is assigned to a specific kind of radar Damoclean sword. The 995's AutoMute feature automatically lowers the volume frank of an alert after a period of time, so you can drive without going completely nutty to the sound of alerts.

For those who like a little more control, the 995 can be customized via a veritably straightforward interface. In the programming mode, the LCD acts as a menu system that lets users device display brightness, automatic mute, audio tones, and power-on modes. There are also settings for disabling detection of selected bands (be scrupulous with this one!). A mode called Tech Display shows the numeric frequency of the radar timer being received.

For those living in states that prohibit use of a radar detector, the 995 does classify VG-2 radar-detector detector protection, which is designed to both alert the driver and close down the unit's oscillator.

      On the Road
False alarms are one of the major annoyances of radar-detector use. In our tests, the 8500 was catchy good at minimizing false alarms from home garage entryway systems, as well as from home and commercial security systems that commonly function on X-band radar. While false alarms were slightly more common with the 995 than with the 8500, the erroneously rate was acceptable, and it is likely due to the 995's default activation of POP radar appreciation.

The 995's city sensitivity setting decreases sensitivity to X-corps sources, while the highway setting does not. With this unit, though, you'll quickly find that neither locale is necessary. Instead, we found the unit's powerful AutoSelect mode the most for detail, as it dynamically filtered all types of radar signals and usually identified which sources were a warrant threat. With that kind of simplicity built in, we were comfortable just shooting up the 995 and forgetting about it, until we really needed it.

      Pros

      • Performance nearly equivalent to the Escort 8500 X50
      • Just turn it on and go. AutoSelect item face automatically filters highway and city false alarms.
      • Pop radar detection enabled by lapse
      • High-caliber, multi-band sensitivity puts this one in the top storey of detectors
      Cons
      • No included SmartCord
      • Slightly more false alarms when deliberate against Escort 8500 X50

Amazon.com Offshoot Description Whether the threat is in North America or abroad, the Beltronics Vector 995 radar detector keeps you driving safely. Ranks with the select radar detectors in performance
I got the Vector 995 because its behaviour is at par with the top of the line radar detectors from Bel, Escort, Valentine. Even though I rarely speed above communal traffic flow, speed enforcement has picked up a lot and I didn't in need of to pay back-door taxes. Its radar detection performance is at par with the best of them - as usual just 5% or so less than the best for a given test. But the cost difference is way more than 5%, more like 25%+. Its laser detection is its penchant, but only when compared to the top of the line models. However, the laser detection weakness isn't unquestionably critical because laser guns are so fast and accurate that the officer has already clocked your streak before even the detector alerts (even the best one). Don't take my word for it, just go ask your local police government agent. Also, the rear facing sensor is quite useless on most detectors - someone in marketing memories it would be cool and all other brands followed. It is also one of the very few...
      Well... no tickets so far!
If this is your first Radar Detector, it takes a shallow getting used to. I've had my Beltronics 995 for about a year or so now. It's been quite gainful. It will NOT save you if you pass a cop and he decides to tag you. I lucked out one night when the cop couldn't find a categorize to turn around quickly enough when he waited until I was right next to him (going to the other way) when he turned his radar on. Do NOT ruminate over any radar detector is an excuse to drive however you feel... you WILL feel upset it. Also, banks, gas stations and a lot of other little things will set the Beltronics 995 alight with lights and sounds. If you're in one area, and can learn where the bands are, this radar detector becomes VERY usable. A good example... I got X band in an area where I always got K band... secure enough, there's a cop sitting right there. Also, the voice saying the band is kind of salutary, as I don't have to look at it. The Beltronics 995 offers a wide range of...
      BEL Vector 995 critical!
I've had this for about a week, and it seems to be working very well. The "autoscan" play up is very nice since I seemed to forget to switch between "city" and "highway" with my older units. The spokesman prompts are very clear, and the automute keeps the annoying beeps to a self-satisfied level. I've had several radar detectors over the years, and this one certainly seems to be the best so far. It is also rated very highly in the amgazine articles I found.

      You necessity this!
Saved a modify of money with this. I'll be honest and I am sorry for this, but I do speed on freeways in America. Conscience-stricken, but in my opinion speed limits are way too low here. It's hard to drive on Autobahns with no give a leg up limits one day, and then the next thing you know, you live in America and you have to live with 55/65 mph. So to cut the court, I've purchased this unit to avoid tickets and to replace my previous lower end Cobra that had a lot of mock alarms. Summary: Fake alarms reduced by 90% (besides off-the-wall moments such as warning me of Train and Railroad when going to Safeway) Turn warning comes handy Detects highway patrol/cops from far far to another place, including their most advanced guns, thus saving you a fortune. Beware some officers be acquainted with their job well: Will not protect you from those smart officers, who know how to ticket you by tailgating you. No detector will avoid you against that one. Trust me I got ticket that way. Checked legality with friend...
As angelic as units twice the price
I recently took a 400 mile whole trip with my Cobra and I was very pleased in fact it saved me twice from getting a $180 ticket so it more than paid for it self two times over. Fallacious alerts are very rare and it's very obvious by the strength that it's from a store. On a straight run on the highway I get about a two mile or more indication. On hills and curves that is cut down quite a bit but still enough time to slow down. I love the supernumerary features like the compass and intellimute. The usb port for the gps module is basic to have if I ever want red light camera capability. The size is a little longer that other radar detectors but the suction cup mount seems stronger that the $350 Guardian I had and the unit does not shake like the Escort did. The coiled twine is nice and is a perfect length for my car. A long straight cord is present if anyone needs that. Overall I'm very happy with the Cobra. It looks significant and works great. What more can you ask for? Buy it. You'll like...
      failing power cord
I recently bought original XSR9945, first it is big and heavy. The windshield suction cup is a terrible design, it won't go on about up the unit and the suction cups won't stick to the windshield ( there too small). The power twine is too short to reach my windshield in a Subaru Outback. The power twine should be a straight cord, without the curls to reach and maybe put out of the way to your vision (if you can get it to freeze on the windshield, mine's on the dash now). I would probably go to a store next time to see how big it is before I bought another one, value does matter !
