      Best pound for the buck.
I had adapted to Escort radar detectors exclusively for 15 years and thought they were the best detectors for the cost. Earlier this year, however, I used an Escort 8500 X50 for a lengthy driving faux pas and found it just barely adequate. I had a 5K mile driving faux pas to take a few weeks ago so I took a chance on this unit. I'm so glad I did. What a great consequence! The performance of this unit BLOWS the Escort 8500 X50 out of the water. I petty blows it right out of the water. I got warnings with this unit WAY before I needed them, whereas I got them simply in time with the 8500. Perhaps more importantly, I got virtually no false warnings with this segment whereas I got them ALL THE TIME with the Escort unit. The Escort unit had me braking every 3 miles for what turned out to be nothing almost every opportunity. Again when it counted--when it was real police--the Escort only warned me a split subordinate or two before I would have been nabbed. I am so seriously impressed with the...
      First take-off
First: the Amazon carbon copy of the V940 is not correct. The unit that I received looks identical to the V955. This is why I'm reviewing so pronto. Second: I thought that the mounting bracket was so small that a mistake had been made. But the mounting method is very deft, adjustable and easy to perform. It can be mounted in even a sweeping windshield. The suction cups have anomalous grip to them. Well done. Third: Round trip on the LIE and zero false alarms. Forth: The instructions endorse using in the highway mode, which I did. Therefore why would any of the more expensive and expansive Bels be inevitable. Fifth: The only negative so far. The top of the unit is gray. Black would have been preferable and less pondering. I found some cross-stitch material at Michael's, traced an outline of the gray section, cut out 5 holes, glued it onto the Bel, and now I have no more complaints.
"Respectable Price, Good Performance, not too Shabby"
I've had my Beltronics Vector 940 for about two weeks. This is my first radar detector, and it seems to be getting the job done, and well at that. I've done a lot of scrutinize on radar detectors, and have been able to weed out the sub-par brands and models. I'd heard nothing but favourable things about Bel, Whistler, and Escort detectors, and only the former two had products in my price rank (sub-two hundred). I'd actually put off buying a radar detector for a few months, to save for a few other things on my car, and after Whistler's Pro-78 () went out of output--which had been my pick--I saw it's update model and it had less than desirable reviews. Finally, about a month ago, I undisputed on finally getting a detector,...

      Enormous Buy
I was degree reluctant to buy this item after reading a few bad reviews on Amazon but I bought it and I'm thrilled I did. Other consumer report sites rated it high and I do also. It's a great entity and came with no problems. It picks up radars long before they're in view. Sanction sure you have the unit parallel with the ground to work best. No need to unplug it when you take leave of your vehicle...it senses a low voltage and turns itself off after a moment when it senses the car is turned off then it turns on when you restart the ignition. It also muffles its alerts after a few beeps so you don't have to reach up and point it down if you're conversing. Great features in a great product.
      Gifted at any price
The 955 is a huge detector that has only less features, not less range, than its more expensive stablemates. But if you are upgrading from a detector that's a few years or more older, you'll still find the features on the 955 to be matchless. More importantly, the range on the 955 is spectacular. Now, Bel has had some quality control issues as of modern development, but unless your unit pops up the dreaded "service required" communication, chances are your detector is finding each threat the best it can. What some people don't realize about patrol radar is that police can use "instant on" radar which can be flicked on at practically point blank chain. Using radar in such a fashion limits or completely prevents radar from being detected. It's not the detector's goof, police and radar manufacturers have just become savvy to the downside of leaving their radar units regularly on. Being popped by "instant on" radar has led many an inexperienced radar detector owner to throw their detector in the hokum...
Beltronics 955 - Peace of mind of Mind On A Long Commute
My mate and I live 100 miles away from where we both work and we commute habitually to and from. Prior to getting the Beltronics 955, I was a nervous wreck driving a all-out of 3-4 hours a day. I have been driving the commute now for well over a year and I received only 1 ticket but I had to be regularly hyper-vigilant. I did not purchase the device to speed at will, just to lay down peace of mind on a long dangerous commute. The device has performed noticeably well so far. During the first quarter of the drive there are speed limit postings with embedded Ka combination to give you a readout of your speed versus the posted limit. Consistently, I pick up the Ka timer from the sign at 1.4 miles out---long before it can ever pick me up. By the time the extraordinary picks up my speed (something you can see on the readout for at least 1/4 of a mile) I have been aware of its spirit for over a mile and had plenty of time to react. I have been made aware of 6 individual situations over the days beyond recall week...

      Description

The Beltronics V995 is the most broadminded radar, laser and safety detector ever designed by Beltronics. It includes full X, K, SuperWide Ka, and Sanctuary Warning System radar capability, front and rear laser detection varactor-tuned (VTO) microwave recipient, digital signal processing (DSP) for superior range and reduced deceitful alarms, our patented Mute and AutoMute, audible and visual merge alerts, and all the performance you'd expect from Beltronics.
Amazon.com Critique POP radar, Ka band, Laser. The list of funny-sounding technologies expected to nab speeders keeps growing. Fortunately, Beltronics has produced an possessions, compact, and user-friendly radar detector. It's made for folks who don't want to fuss with the ins and outs, but who do want first-class protection from high-tech speed traps. By present K-, X-, Ka-, and even Ku-band protection--plus protection from POP and laser detection--the Vector 995 covers all the bases. While testing revealed some little problems with false alarms, this minor quibble was not enough to keep us from placing the 995 in the top stratum of radar detectors, right up there with the standard-setting Escort Passport 8500 X50.

Click the likeness to get a closer look at the Vector 995's features.
      Design
While it's pilfer to make comparisons with the Escort 8500 X50, it's especially to the point here, as Escort and Beltronics, the maker of the Vector 995, recently merged all of their manufacturing and conceive. Apparently, many of the internal components and technology in the 995 are essentially the same as those found in the 8500, and as you'll see, our testing bears that out.

Mounting the 995 in a carrier couldn't be easier. A small suction cup bracket slides into the component's release mechanism and easily attaches to the windshield with light strain. The unit is housed in a sturdy plastic case that's low profile and compressed--in fact, it's a good deal sleeker and smaller than the box-shaped 8500. The upraise of the unit is dominated by a receiver window. There's also an additional laser detector window that faces the traveller compartment, which is designed to detect laser signals emanating from behind the conveyance.

Another great attribute of the 995 is its easy control layout. Four buttons on the top of the portion control power, city mode on/off, display brightness, and tome/mute settings. Two of the buttons also double as selection buttons when the piece is in programming mode. During normal use the red, horizontal LCD display graphs the force of the radar and laser signals the unit detects, as well as the detector's sensitivity way. Power is supplied by an included 12-volt cord, which plugs into a cigarette-lighter power socket. Unfortunately, the 995 doesn't freight with the very cool SmartCord that is included with the Escort 8500. Branded as the SmartPlug on the Beltronics side of things, it features an caution LED, as well as a built-in mute button built right into the power bung. Sadly, it's only available as a $30 option for the 995.

Choose the standard parade mode for a graphic representation of radar threats...
...Or use the "Tech Display" to see the thorough frequency of incoming signals.
      Features
The 995 covers the gauntlet when it comes to safe keeping from speed trap technology. While detection of the radar bands currently in use in North America--the X, K, and Ka bands--is yardstick for detectors these days, the devil is in the details when it comes to on-the-road effectuation. Thankfully, the 995 has some extra mojo built in that makes it both more susceptive to radar signals, and smart enough to select out false alarms. The unit also features detection diodes for laser detection, and an add-on system that installs on the outer of the vehicle, the LaserPro 905, offers enhanced laser detection, as well as laser-jamming capabilities. On top of all this preservation, the 995 adds optional sensitivity to the Ku band, which is commonly toughened in Europe.

In addition to good multiband radar and laser sensitivity, the 995 is intended to detect the latest highway menace, POP radar (queue scary music here). POP radar guns, while still more rare in police departments, are used to identify speeding vehicles in awful traffic that typically confuses other types of radar. They provide little augury as the radar signal idles at a low frequency until it transmits an extremely short, tipsy-frequency burst to "pop" a target. The 995 is equipped with a highly responsive receiving system and a digital signal processor designed to pick up POP signals from a safety-deposit box distance. POP detection is enabled by default on the 995, unlike on the 8500--a gracious thing for people who don't want to mess with customization menus. While enabling POP detection can wax the number of false alarms (due to the increased sensitivity required of the constituent), and it's probably why Escort decided to disable it unless the user wants it, Beltronics has unmistakably decided the added protection is worth a few extra bogus alerts on the 995.

And what about the alerts on the 995? In counting up to audio tones, the 995 also has digital voice alerts that lecture you what kind of danger lies ahead. If you're not into the Knight Rider item, i.e., a computerized voice in your car, the audio tones do a good job, as well. In this mode, a together tone or chirp is assigned to a specific kind of radar threat. The 995's AutoMute puff up automatically lowers the volume level of an alert after a period of interval, so you can drive without going completely batty to the sound of alerts.

For those who like a spoonful more control, the 995 can be customized via a fairly straightforward interface. In the programming form, the LCD acts as a menu system that lets users control display happiness, automatic mute, audio tones, and power-on modes. There are also settings for disabling detection of selected bands (be alert with this one!). A mode called Tech Display shows the numeric frequency of the radar timer being received.

For those living in states that prohibit use of a radar detector, the 995 does file VG-2 radar-detector detector protection, which is designed to both alert the driver and locked up down the unit's oscillator.

      On the Road
False alarms are one of the major annoyances of radar-detector use. In our tests, the 8500 was appealing good at minimizing false alarms from home garage entry systems, as well as from home and commercial security systems that commonly handle on X-band radar. While false alarms were slightly more common with the 995 than with the 8500, the incorrectly rate was acceptable, and it is likely due to the 995's default activation of POP radar understanding.

The 995's city sensitivity setting decreases sensitivity to X-gang sources, while the highway setting does not. With this unit, though, you'll quickly find that neither mise en scene is necessary. Instead, we found the unit's powerful AutoSelect mode the most exact, as it dynamically filtered all types of radar signals and usually identified which sources were a rightful threat. With that kind of simplicity built in, we were comfortable just gun blast up the 995 and forgetting about it, until we really needed it.

      Pros

      • Performance amateurishly equivalent to the Escort 8500 X50
      • Just turn it on and go. AutoSelect article automatically filters highway and city false alarms.
      • Pop radar detection enabled by fall short
      • High-caliber, multi-band sensitivity puts this one in the top range of detectors
      Cons
      • No included SmartCord
      • Slightly more false alarms when cautious against Escort 8500 X50

Amazon.com Issue Description Whether the threat is in North America or abroad, the Beltronics Vector 995 radar detector keeps you driving safely. As the hustle leader in technology and innovation, the V995 accurately detects all US radar and laser bands (X, K, Ka) as well as the UK favorite-Ku. All bands are detected at the furthest tenable distance including the newest "POP" mode Ka-band threat. With pellucid voice alerts, you can keep your eyes on the road, not the detector. Ranks with the top-quality radar detectors in performance
I got the Vector 995 because its exhibition is at par with the top of the line radar detectors from Bel, Escort, Valentine. Even though I rarely speed above sweeping traffic flow, speed enforcement has picked up a lot and I didn't stand in want to pay back-door taxes. Its radar detection performance is at par with the best of them - usually lately 5% or so less than the best for a given test. But the cost difference is way more than 5%, more like 25%+. Its laser detection is its delicacy, but only when compared to the top of the line models. However, the laser detection weakness isn't uncommonly critical because laser guns are so fast and accurate that the officer has already clocked your expedition before even the detector alerts (even the best one). Don't take my word for it, just go ask your local police office-holder. Also, the rear facing sensor is quite useless on most detectors - someone in publicity thought it would be cool and all other brands followed. It is also one of the very few...
      Well... no tickets so far!
If this is your first Radar Detector, it takes a scrap getting used to. I've had my Beltronics 995 for about a year or so now. It's been quite profitable. It will NOT save you if you pass a cop and he decides to tag you. I lucked out one night when the cop couldn't find a position to turn around quickly enough when he waited until I was right next to him (going to the other way) when he turned his radar on. Do NOT invent any radar detector is an excuse to drive however you feel... you WILL regret it. Also, banks, gas stations and a lot of other seldom things will set the Beltronics 995 ablaze with lights and sounds. If you're in one territory, and can learn where the bands are, this radar detector becomes VERY useful. A good example... I got X platoon in an area where I always got K band... sure enough, there's a cop sitting right there. Also, the speech saying the band is kind of useful, as I don't have to look at it. The Beltronics 995 offers a deviant range of...
      BEL Vector 995 superior!
I've had this for about a week, and it seems to be working very well. The "autoscan" participate is very nice since I seemed to forget to switch between "city" and "highway" with my older units. The publication prompts are very clear, and the automute keeps the annoying beeps to a cordial level. I've had several radar detectors over the years, and this one certainly seems to be the best so far. It is also rated very highly in the amgazine articles I found.

      You distress this!
Saved a revitalize of money with this. I'll be honest and I am sorry for this, but I do speed on freeways in America. Contrite, but in my opinion speed limits are way too low here. It's hard to drive on Autobahns with no facilitate limits one day, and then the next thing you know, you live in America and you have to live with 55/65 mph. So to cut the hunt, I've purchased this unit to avoid tickets and to replace my previous diminish end Cobra that had a lot of false alarms. Summary: Fake alarms reduced by 90% (besides zany moments such as warning me of Train and Railroad when going to Safeway) Voice warning comes handy Detects highway patrol/cops from far far to another place, including their most advanced guns, thus saving you a fortune. Beware some officers grasp their job well: Will not protect you from those smart officers, who know how to ticket you by tailgating you. No detector will boost you against that one. Trust me I got ticket that way. Checked legality with friend...
As special-occasion as units twice the price
I recently took a 400 mile upfront trip with my Cobra and I was very pleased in fact it saved me twice from getting a $180 ticket so it more than paid for it self two times over. Imitation alerts are very rare and it's very obvious by the strength that it's from a store. On a straight run on the highway I get about a two mile or more augury. On hills and curves that is cut down quite a bit but still enough time to slow down. I love the supplement features like the compass and intellimute. The usb port for the gps module is wonderful to have if I ever want red light camera capability. The size is a little longer that other radar detectors but the suction cup mount seems stronger that the $350 Protect I had and the unit does not shake like the Escort did. The coiled string is nice and is a perfect length for my car. A long straight cord is accessible if anyone needs that. Overall I'm very happy with the Cobra. It looks matchless and works great. What more can you ask for? Buy it. You'll like...
      discourteous power cord
I recently bought working model XSR9945, first it is big and heavy. The windshield suction cup is a terrible design, it won't influence up the unit and the suction cups won't stick to the windshield ( there too small). The power rope is too short to reach my windshield in a Subaru Outback. The power twine should be a straight cord, without the curls to reach and maybe put out of the way to your vision (if you can get it to mainstay on the windshield, mine's on the dash now). I would probably go to a store next time to see how big it is before I bought another one, evaluate does matter !
